Although in its history Senegal suffered at the hands of slave traders, and still has a level of poverty most westerners thankfully have little to no experience of, today the country is making strides towards greater prosperity and, in spite of the difficulties, there is a great emphasis placed on the value of peace. Peace and hospitality are the mantras of Senegalese society regardless of personal circumstance.
